Macomb County Sheriff's Office
Cyber Crime Unit
July 8, 2004
An online posse dedicated to helping the
Macomb Area Computer Enforcement team catch
child predators on the Internet has
bagged its second suspect, police said Wednesday.
Theophilus A.
Jhons, 27, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly arranging a sexual rendezvous
with what he thought was a 15-year-old girl.
In reality, Jhons was chatting online with a reserve officer, said Capt.
Anthony Wickersham of the Macomb County Sheriff's Department.
Jhons of Houston was visiting family in Detroit, Wickersham said.
The six posse volunteers were recruited earlier this year and trained to help
detectives keep up with the slew of adults who have turned to the Internet to
meet teens for sex. The first arrest the volunteers helped make was last month,
Wickersham said.
Jhons was arraigned Wednesday in 41B District Court in Clinton Township. Bond
was set at $25,000.
He was the second arrest this week for the county's computer crimes team.
Anthony S.
Meredith, 25, of Roseville was arrested Monday for allegedly arranging sex
with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl, police said.
Both men face charges of using a computer to commit a crime and child
sexually abusive activity.
